Youtube tightening the rule for Monitization

YouTube is soon going to introduce tougher requirements for youtubers who want to make money through their videos.

Staff are going to manually review all clips before they are added to a premium service that pairs big brand advertisers.

Subscriber count

Clips will no longer have adverts without these Criteria-

  • at least 1,000 subscribers
  • more than 4,000 hours of their content viewed by others within the past 12 months

YouTube will enforce this new rule for all existing channels as of February 20th, meaning that channels that fails to meet these thresholds will no longer be able to make income from ads.

YouTube said that this can represent a “higher standard” than the previous requirement of 10,000 total life-time views to join the program.

Human reviewers

This focuses on the Google Preferred programme.

Brands will pay extra to attach their adverts to the top 5% of videos most popular with 18- to 34-year-olds.

Until now, the process was automated.
